PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
The Master of Science in Counseling Psychology program develops highly trained counselors grounded in Christian principles who are prepared to provide mental health and substance abuse care, empower individuals to deal adequately with life and experience growth, change behavior, and make well informed decisions.
Students are placed in community-based clinical training sites where they undergo real-world training experiences with diverse clienteleunder supervisors who have had specific training.
Students will have knowledge related to clinical conceptualization, diagnosis, intervention, the principles of professional clinical counseling, and how to articulate their personal theoretical model.
Students will be able to critically evaluate and conduct clinical research related to all aspects of counseling ensuring the highest quality of therapeutic skill.
Career Opportunities
Students who earn a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology have the opportunity to work with a variety of clientele and clinical settings.Graduates may find employment in private practice settings, communitymental health centers, and government agencies. They also have the advantage of applying their skills in educational settings as professors, and branching out as clinical supervisors once they are licensed and meet the additional requirements in their respective state to supervise.

HIU’s MSCP program meets the educational requirements of the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) for professional clinical counselors in California including the requirements of the Business and Professions. Code, 4999.32 and 4999.33
